The Academy of Osseointegration is pleased to announce that over 60 dental students from universities around the country have been nominated as AO Outstanding Dental Students in Implant Dentistry. This prestigious award honors undergraduate dental students, nominated by faculty who recognize a commitment to excellence in treatment planning, diagnosis and sequencing in implant dentistry. The selection process focuses on a student’s demonstrated interest and skill level in implant restoration during their senior year.
“It’s a real honor for students to be recognized by such a prestigious organization. This award encourages continued interest and dedication in future post-graduate studies,” explained Dr. Amerian Sones, DMD, MS, AO board director. “We once had a student who then continued on to grad school, completed his residency and then returned to the university to teach in our dental program,” she added.
Recipients of this award receive complimentary attendance to the AO Annual Meeting, offering an opportunity to network with renowned experts in implant dentistry as well as other students and residents from around the world.
“I am very honored to receive this award. Utilization of my membership and access to the Academy of Osseointegration newsletter and The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implant resources is proving very beneficial as I begin my training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan.”

“I was completely taken by surprise and tremendously flattered to win the Outstanding Student in Implant Dentistry Award at my dental school graduation banquet last May! The University of Louisville has some amazing faculty that helped guide and facilitate my implant cases. Throughout this process, my knowledge and confidence when restoring implants in the esthetic zone sky-rocketed and I experienced immense growth as a clinician. I’m exceedingly grateful to the faculty that nominated me and the Academy of Osseointegration for presenting me with this award.”
