Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) has been proven to successfully resolve severe alveolar bony atrophies. However it still remains a challenging surgical technique with a high rate of complications. This lecture will assess the causes and the management of the major complications in GBR with resorbable and non-resorbable barrier membranes as well as the rationale to decrease the complication rates in advanced GBR.
Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to: 1) discuss the biological principles of Guided Bone Regeneration in relation to its clinical applicability; 2) assess the complications through real clinical cases; and 3) explain how to avoid the complications.
